 Language is a medium for social interaction and communication

Language has three uses:

1. Naming: “To represent our experience of the world … this is the field of a text”
2. Relationships: “To interact with others … this is the tenor of a text”
3. Construction/ texts: “To construct texts … this is the mode of a text”
